Visitors can get up close and personal with some of the zoo’s resident giraffes, orangutans, tigers, koalas, and elephants, to name just a few. The playful meerkats are always a hit with visitors, and there’s even a purpose-built gallery where you can see them eye-to-eye. Whether you’re looking to learn more about exotic animals or just want to enjoy a day out with the family, the Vienna Zoo is sure to impress.

Panda: Vienna Zoo’s Star Attraction

If you’re looking for a unique animal encounter while in the city of Vienna, a visit to the zoo’s giant pandas is a must. Schönbrunn Zoo is one of only a handful of zoos worldwide that has been entrusted with a pair of pandas by the People’s Republic of China. And it’s the only zoo in Europe with a proven track record of successfully helping this endangered species to breed naturally. After the birth of Fu Long (2007), Fu Hu (2010) and Fu Bao (2013), Yang became the first panda in captivity to raise twin cubs without human intervention, causing a global sensation in the process. Today, visitors can see these amazing animals up close and learn about the efforts being made to protect them in the wild.
